Personal leadership and development – an area often overlooked – are at the heart of Crest’s leadership programs

Crest Collective offers maritime and offshore professionals the opportunity to consciously reflect on their careers and grow personal leadership. Whether you’re at the beginning of your career or have 20+ years of experience, Crest offers a program that fits your needs.

According to Seriena Bal and Whitney Reemers-Stout of Crest, the goal is to grow awareness for emotional intelligence. “It’s always about personal leadership and development,” says Seriena. “And that’s precisely an area where the industry doesn’t naturally focus its efforts on.”

Crest emerged from a collaboration between maritime and offshore companies such as GustoMSC, Jumbo and Mammoet together with the Municipality of Schiedam and Economic Board Zuid Holland. They realized that technical expertise alone wasn’t enough to maintain their leading position in the industry. Personal development and emotional intelligence proved key for the success of teams and organizations.

Crest offers three leadership programs, tailored to different needs:

  • Personal Leadership: For individuals who want to shape their careers and increase their influence.
  • Collaborative Leadership: For team leads or those who work with different internal and external disciplines and want to improve collaboration and explore their leadership style.
  • Thought Leadership: For specialists who want to transfer their knowledge and experience and become more self-aware.

With its programs, Crest creates a continuous learning environment where participants are encouraged to reflect, share experiences, and challenge each other. “The community set-up makes Crest more of a mastermind group than a conventional training program.” a participant noted. The program runs for nine months, during which participants from different companies come together to learn and explore their influence within their organizations.

Crest’s goal is not just to provide ready-made answers, but to help participants discover their own. This often leads to unexpected insights and a greater sphere of influence within their organizations. “To understand your role within a team, you must first value yourself,”, says an alumnus, “and also understand what motivates others and why they react in certain ways.” Crest is helping transform the maritime sector from a focus on IQ and command & control to one that values emotional intelligence, servant leadership, and authenticity at work, contributing to a future-proof industry.
